On behalf of Adazi-Ani Town Union, USA/Canada, I welcome you to our website. Thanks for visiting.
Adazi-Ani Town Union is an organization of men and women, committed to promoting quality of life in our community. There is a reason for this commitment.
According to the Nigerian Federal Ministry of Health (2009), every year 284,000 infants die in Nigeria. This translates into 784 each day. This is a tragedy of mammoth proportion, and, to us, it is unacceptable. What is the cause of this calamity? First and foremost, 60% of births in Nigeria take place at home. Babies born at home, especially in rural areas, are essentially at the mercy of the local mid-wives. As such, minor birth complications that could easily be resolved by cesarean section (C-Section) end up killing babies at birth. Similar tragedies face those women who give birth at the health facilities in urban areas because our health centers and hospitals are not adequately maintained.
All told, healthcare facilities (e.g., good hospitals, healthcare centers) and essential amenities (e.g., water, power supply, medical equipment, and potent drugs) are clearly lacking in our rural areas, and those in urban areas are basically neglected. Hence, the elite and the high level politicians often rush their pregnant wives to foreign countries to have their babies delivered overseas. While the rich and famous can afford to fly their pregnant wives to foreign countries, what about the poor? You already know the answer: the poor masses are battling it out with the local mid-wives, and ill-equipped medical facilities at home. Realization of this fate, awaiting our people in our community, formed the core of our mission.
My good people, I am delighted and honored to be the President of Adazi-Ani Town Union, USA/Canada for the next two years. No doubt, we do not have all the answers, but we do have the chance to work with one another, and other Adazi-Ani associations in different parts of the world to help the helpless. It is a part of our strategies to have a good working relationship with other partners.
Once again, I welcome you to Adazi-Ani Town Union, with the hope that you will continue to explore our website to learn more about our community programs. We ask that you attend our fundraising events, make contributions to support our efforts.
May God bless you!
Sincerely,
Oliver Anyabolu
President, Adazi-Ani Town Union
